During the fiscal cliff saga, I noticed that every time Speaker John Boehner gave a press conference there was a distinct spike in angry comments posted throughout the social networking world.  Furious Conservatives nationwide were tweeting him over the coals—mostly deservedly—and calling for his removal as Speaker of the House.  When that didn’t happen, again the posters and tweeters were set ablaze.

While watching Speaker Boehner make his continuous TV appearances, saying all the wrong things at all the wrong times, I was reminded of when Britney Spears had her public meltdown and shaved her head bald in the window of a tattoo parlor.  All I could think at the time was, “Get those cameras off that poor girl!  She can’t handle it anymore!”  But of course the opposite happened.  The vulture paparazzi followed her crazy self all over Los Angeles and “Bald Britney” was the lead story on all the local “news” channels for months.  Other misguided pop starlets followed; their antics, missteps and very public mistakes have all but killed their collective careers (and credibility) forever.

So the last time I saw Boehner on television, smiling and tan and seemingly unaware of the Conservative ire he was invoking, I found myself again screaming at the television, “Get the cameras off of him!  He’s killing the GOP forever!”

I don’t mean to pick on Speaker Boehner alone; there are many other establishment Republicans (cough, Mitch McConnell, cough) who also need to stay away from all cameras and microphones for a while.  They have nothing new to say but the leftist reporters know how angry they make us when they say it anyway…But no one causes more networking anger from Conservatives than John Boehner.  Sympathizing isn’t an option and frankly doesn’t seem necessary with him.  After watching his continuous appearances on every television market on earth, I have come to the conclusion that John Boehner flat-out loves the attention.  Not only is he comfortable and calm with reporters, he seems to be camera-ready 24/7.  I’ve never been to Ohio, but I’m fairly certain folks don’t live there for the “beaches and sun”.  So that “chocolate-y glow” he’s famous for can only be achieved by either spraying on massive amounts or spending many hours in a tanning bed.  Also, as a woman with “questionable hair color” I won’t even discuss Boehner’s jet-black version.  Why would a man his age need to be so perfectly movie star groomed?  It goes beyond the fact that he’s a political public figure.  I believe that Boehner, like Bald Britney, is addicted to his celebrity status.

What is the solution?  How do we protect whatever’s left of our Conservative/GOP/Tea Party/Libertarian/Whatever Party and stop scaring away any potential future voters–many who have already turned away from all of us in disgust?  We do the same thing any decent maternal or paternal type should have done to salvage Britney Spear’s career: you get them out of the spotlight!  Purposely turn your cameras away from the “cushy career” politicians and shine the light on some of the good ones instead—the ones who understand who actually works for whom.  There are many remarkable, hard-working politicians across the United States who really need some media attention; those who are fighting the “smaller” battles in their states.  One of those is Texas State Representative David Simpson with his new “Texas Travel Freedom Act“, making it illegal for a TSA agent to sexually grope you “without probable cause” (as per our 4th Amendment Rights). California Assemblyman Tim Donnelly is introducing a bill that would allow undercover Marshalls to monitor and protect public schools, much like they protect airplanes.   Of course another rising star in Texas is newly elected (against all establishment odds) Senator Ted Cruz.

To show how serious I am about this, I’m making a pledge here and now that if any of our PolitiChicks are covering an event and if Speaker Boehner is standing next to someone like State Representative Simpson, our cameras will be directed only on the “smaller” politician.  Let’s see if these Bald Britney Politicians will start listening to us if we start shunning and taking the attention away from them.

They’ve had their say.  They’ve won their elections and there’s nothing we can do about it (for now) so our anger, wrath, tweets and posts really aren’t doing anything other than making us all look bad—and giving many of us ulcers.  Instead of hate, let’s spread the love around to some of the good guys.  Maybe by doing so, more Conservative leaders will step into the political arena—and with enough advance media attention from all of us, they might stand a better chance beating the “big guys” next time around.

None of them are “perfect”; my fingers literally won’t let me type the words “perfect” and “politician” in the same sentence.  However some are much better than others, and understand that being a politician should be a duty to their country and not simply a career to gather as much money and power as possible.

To show Conservative solidarity, if any of you know of some great “smaller politicians” who are trying to do big things in your state, please let us know at and we’ll do our best to give them the national attention they deserve.

It’s not too late to save America or our Conservative/GOP/Tea Party/Libertarian/Whatever Party—we’ve just got to find new ways to get back in the game successfully.

I hadn’t thought of it that way. The media is gloating as we are yelling at our republicans to do the right thing. Your solution will certainly help if it is understood. I am more concerned that the Obama administration has tied their hands because he is winning the power battle. Like Popeye, who doesn’t have time to rescue ___ (forgot her name) because to take the time would be to lose the battle with the evil Bludo. It is my opinion that Obama, backed by his many czars, is flooding the arena with issues to be fought. He is effectively using Harry Reid and the 3 vote margin to block and destroy any legitimate legislation coming out of the Boehner house. This strategy has allowed Obama to strut like the punk man-child he is. In order to break the stranglehold, our good guys of the 2010 revolution have to fight dirtier than the Chicago mob….. or all is lost by 2016.

“Garshk Olive, gaa ga ga ga ga”

    • Absolutely. (Her name is Olive Oyl, btw ;-) We have lots of great Congressmen (Gohmert, Gowdy, Bachmann) but yes, their hands are tied & they are the minority. There’s nothing we can do about the incompetents right now; NEXT YEAR as we get closer to elections we’ll scream & shout & point out all their flaws. But for now, we need to make sure the good ones are recognized and help them retain their seats. And of course, term limits would be a good way to make sure the ‘good guys’ remain good & don’t become what we’re all upset about (“establishment”–aka career—politicians)

A-M M: You young lady are a genius! that is exactly what we need and the way you tied it to Brittany’s train wreck was brilliant.

  3. Smeethow says:

I have a relative that has a mouth twitch just like Boehner’s, said relative is an alcoholic. Mr. Speaker needs to go to rehab or AA.

This is one of your best ever Ann-Marie

  5. Toni Stimmel says:

Why would the media not want to quote the top RINOs of the GOP, their scripts are written by the same folks who supply the talking points to the media. I gives Round-Heeled Bonehead an excuse for caving.

  6. Buck says:

I have already informed several notable republicans , that having voted that way since 1964 , it will never happen again , if I happen to vote for some one on that ticket it will be a pure coincidence , and even more , because I will go out of my way to NOT vote for a hypocritical B–T–D .

  7. troon62 says:

My sentiments exactly. Obama has the presidential bully pulpit, a fawning international news media, endless opportunities to wax eloquent on the national stage (Inauguration Day, State of the Union, etc.), and we have Boehner/McConnell, et al. That, folks, is a lopsided loss for the good guys. B/M and company speak in legislative lingo, which 98 percent of Americans could care less about. They have virtually no ability to articulate a grand vision for our country (a la Ronaldus Maximus), instead isolating themselves in the weeds of the legislative back-and-forth with the Dems. Result: they lose almost every time, even though clear majorities of Americans support federal spending reductions, enforcing serious border protection, and other common sense priorities. If Republicans don’t have the tactical ability to shed themselves of the “party of millionaires and billionaires” label, they will continue losing elections. Suggestion: work for Main Street, not Wall Street. Argue for breaking up the huge “too big to fail” financial institutions, end the absurd tax-favored status for million dollar hedge fund operators, etc. As for your suggestion about hardworking ‘small pols’ who understand the fight, I nominate my second term congressman from the Third District here in MN, Erik Paulsen. He is on the right side of the great majority of issues, and he clearly understands our awful national fiscal trajectory.

Excellent, A-M. Maybe your best, but a hard call, as you do lots of great columns. This one is a ringer…thinking of my game of quoits, it is a 5 ringer. You hit all of the most touchy buttons. HUZZAH! (feel free to google that last word,if it is unfamiliar.)

    Good post Ann-Marie.

  11. ary says:

Best idea I’ve heard in ages!

Spread the love to the good guys!

Great analogy to Brittany on her way down.

Your solution is to put the naughty childish brat pack types in media “time out”, instead of rewarding their attention-getting behavior.

And you have it right: The media is the solution!

As much as people don’t like to acknowledge it, her laser-like focus on what should be our underlying awareness of the power of the media to distort public opinion

is the reason so many “loved” Sarah Palin’s acceptance speech when she was nominated to run as a Vice Presidential candidate.

Palin brought the media war and the issue of media prostitution clearly into focus!

And the organized-almost-criminal media skewered her and her family for her awareness!

So we need to ignore those embedded reporters, too, who are clearly on the side of blacklisting Conservatives.

Let’s focus on the good-and- spiritually beautiful few that tell the truth — as one great reporter said, those who tell “the rest of the story”!

Perhaps we even need to go back-to-the-future and reduce “news” coverage from 24 hour-a-day-repetitious drivel to a few good shows worthy of the name “news”.

Embedded as “reporters” are, most are merely 24 hour a day local and regional campaign managers and lobbyists for this administration’s “change” agendas. The mission he has given them, if they choose to accept it, is not mission impossible. In fact, it’s quite easy to accomplish: distract while he destroys!

“News” of any type is now 99% “distractions”, hot-button emotional coverage,

designed to keep us from paying attention to the core issue, which is Obama’s planned, multi-faceted and strategic destruction of America and liberty: the so-called HOPE as he brings about his “fundamentally changed” America.

The “fundamental” part of Obama’s promise to “Change” America is to “Progressive-ly” shred and abuse the Constitution

and all who wish to live by it in a free America,

in order to further consolidate HIS and their power and their influence in the one-world scheme of things.

    The evidence?

1.those who are pro-Constititional principles are considered possible terrorists.

    2. Those who disagree with him and his political army publicly enough, in a most effective way, are often “ruined” intentionally by his actions

    2. The “leader” who, with his gang,

breaks the laws and abuse the Constitution by refusing to uphold the laws unless HE says so,

by his actions declares himself Dictator,

executively orders what he cannot accomplish through intimidation and secret deals,

and makes himself a very well paid pimp to the media.

We can only hope his arrogance and causes him to self-destruct, before he destroys America!

    • Excellent post, Ary–thank you. That’s why “New Media” is so important; besides Fox News & talk radio, Conservative websites (like are all we’ve got to combat the firewall that is the mainstream media. Praying for America non-stop!

  12. Al Roberts says:

Some information for you. Britney did not shave her head for publicity. She shaved it so there would be less chance of the courts finding out about her recent past use of DRUGS.

And Boehner is happy with what he is doing because he is on script. He is working to suppress the Republican party and thereby allow the Democrats to continue the socialization/communization of America.

The only thing that would be a problem for HIM would be if we got the CHRISTIAN TEA PARTY going. The Republicans would not hold enough die hards to keep the conservatives in check. Right now, the TEA PARTY is playing into his hands by their refusal to 1. ‘Address anything but fiscal issues. 2. Leave the Republican Party and strike out on their own. And yet this is the ideal time. Now we would have TWO YEARS to build the party and watch the Republicans become like the Whigs.
