Do you remember when the word “Christian” simply meant a follower of Jesus Christ?  Today a Christian is anybody who isn’t a Muslim or a Jew.  In addition, if we as Christians dare to espouse standards or values that would make necessary our saying “no” to something, then we are called radical and violent Christians.

Do you remember when a “fundamentalist” was a person who believed and followed the literal teachings of their faith?  Today’s definition is a person who takes their religion so literally and to such extremes that they contradict the very basis of their faith.

Does anybody remember when “gay” meant simply to be happy?

Do you remember when a “progressive” was a person who favored improvement of the human condition, specifically via technological innovation and development?  Today the word “progressive” is used as a more acceptable pseudonym for “liberal.”

And there was a time when “conserve” was just a common-sense way of life that meant making the best use of all that you have; waste not, want not.  Today the terms “conserve” and “conservation” have an earth-worshipping connotation.  We are told that man is the enemy of all nature and that we waste and are the destroyers…. that we are not even worthy of making use of any of our natural resources.  These culture Nazis are oblivious to the fact that Creation is God’s gift to Man (Genesis 1: 27-31).

But Google’s definition for “fascism” is the fire that lit my dynamite today. Type “define fascism” in the Google search box and this is what you will get:

  1. An authoritarian and nationalistic right-wing system of government and social organization.
  2. (in general use) Extreme right-wing, authoritarian, or intolerant views or practice.

If you need more proof, go to Google and type “fascism” for yourself; here is the screen shot:

Compare Google’s definition to the Merriam-Webster dictionary:

fas·cism noun \ˈfa-ˌshi-zəm also ˈfa-ˌsi-\
1Definition of FASCISM

often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

2: a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control <early instances of army fascism and brutality — J. W. Aldridge>

Examples of FASCISM

  1. the rise of Fascism in Europe before World War II
  2. From the first hours of Hitler’s invasion of the Soviet Union, the propagandists on both sides of the conflict portrayed the struggle in stark, Manichaean language. The totalitarian nature of both regimes made this inevitable. On one side stood Hitler, fascism, the myth of German supremacy; on the other side stood Stalin, communism, and the international proletarian revolution. —Anne Applebaum, New York Review of Books, 25 Oct. 2007

Do you find this to be as shocking and offensive as I do?  Sadly, this is totally believable.  My son was in high school in the early 90s here in Georgia.  One afternoon he came home extolling the virtues of Hitler. Shortly thereafter, he brought home a paper from school talking about political groups– and the Right was represented as “skinheads”, “Arian nation” etc.  However, the far Left was not typified by anything distasteful, intolerant, or violent.  I was stunned and promptly called the school and asked for a conference with his government teacher. When I arrived for my conference, I was ushered into the principal’s office; the door was closed, and there sat the principal, the government teacher, and 2 other adults– all of them waiting for me. Can you say “Intimidation Tactics”?

This is the education that our tax money is paying for and is also one of the reasons my grandchildren are educated at home.

Words are being redefined, values are being blurred, standards are being shaken, and our Constitution is being trampled by those who have sworn to uphold it.  It is time for every American to become a staunch, vigilant, and active Patriot.  Ronald Reagan said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.”

Stand Up, fellow Patriots; tell everybody you see what you already know.  Be brave and bold; America and our freedom depend upon you.

Great article! I cannot agree more. I have been called a Nazi and a Fascist because of my affiliation with the Tea party. He is a leader of the democratic party in Dahlonega Democratic Party who claims that his degree is in history. I posted the definition for him and asked him if, in his studies of history, they covered 20th century history. I asked him if history would give him any clue to the nature of Facism. He shut up but insists that he would be more comfortable if government ran the country.
I am curious how your match with the principal and educator with their two (liberal, no doubt) buddies went. Surely you didn’t succumb to the intimidation and spoke you mind as eloquently as you did in this article?

You know the fact is we have no one to blame but ourselves. Mao, Marx, Stalin and ol Adolf all have written the same thing, and Mr O has penned his own version.

The end of America has always been a single generation away, that generation is now adults. We had a choice and, we have a choice now and we continue to lack the courage to act, Conformity, Complacency or what it really is, cowardice.

We all know what the problem is, and we all know what the solution is.

    • You are absolutely correct, Bob; conservatives compromising a little here and a smidgen there is precisely what has brought us to this place. John Adams would never have permitted even a millimeter of compromise w/ the lefties.

  3. One of our PolitiChicks fans pointed out the ‘fascism’ definition to us–thank you for writing about it, Abigail, great work!

  4. A truly outstanding and insightful article. I’ve been griping about how the Left uses language to make its views palatable. Lefties have somehow cast themselves as the Compassionate Ones and us as mean-spirited and selfish when that is the exact opposite of reality. Thank you, Abigail. I’m looking forward to reading more of your work.

  5. Deborah Rather says:

I have come to see that those who cry intolerance the loudest are themselves the most intolerant, and that defines today’s liberal very accurately. In order to make their viewpoint tolerable to the general public, they must rewrite history, brand perspectives other than their own as unacceptable and hide, distort or discount facts. They simply cannot support their views and arguments any other way. For too long, the “average” citizen has lived believing that this extreme viewpoint could never win the day in this country, and too many still cannot accept how easily these extreme lefties will lie and manipulate to achieve their ends. I hope and pray that enough people will open their eyes and exercise the power of the ballot while they still have it.

  6. Bob Marshall says:

Today, we are more of a Socialist nation than a Democracy because so many demand so much from the government which results in more and more entitlement programs expanding the size of government while increasing our national debt. today, we have a majority in congress who are politicians and not statesman. John Adams-Diary-Feb. 9, 1772. “A statesman would not compromise his principles. A politician would compromise his principles in order to advance his own interest.” socialist advocate controlled elections, controlled media, controlled education, elimination of free speech, disarmament of the population and fiat currency. Sound familiar? Just how close are we to being the United States Socialist Republic? The truly sad thing is the majority of citizens are helping to bring this to a reality.

    • Absolutely correct,Bob. We have become a Nation of takers, and freeloaders. Give me free stuff, and Obama, has no problem with that mindset. We drift into this situation, when our educators, promote that mentality, and tell students, they have a right to free stuff. America, did not fight the wars we fought, to lay down and become a nation of freeloaders. First step. Get Obama out of here.

Dear Ms. Abigail Adams thank for your editorial. I DO stand up and take notice, I also am VERY verbal in my opinions about the liberal, progressive, anti-American, anti-Consitutional, anti everything (except MOI) members of our US society. In fact, I have removed all them from my social gatherings, they are no longer welcome/invited to my home, social gatherings, and/or Christmas parties (oh, my God…NOT a CHRISTMAS party!). The only way to handle these LOOSERS is to call them out…point blank, be aggressive, rude, and the first to let them know THEY are THE PROBLEM and they are the ones with the problem. I grew weary to make a pretense of politeness, the time for that has long drawn nigh. Now it is time to lower ourselves to their level, to be mean and demeaning just like they comport themselves. The left / progressive has mistakenly misjudged the polite, conservative demeanor as a weakness for which they can work to their own devices. Sadly, this has become a social and cultural war of vast importance in our nation…and if it is not one yet…, it shall be one soon.
