Apathy. Dictionary.com defines it as “absence of interest in or enthusiasm for things generally considered interesting or moving.” Pam Decker says, “Apathy can be very contagious and spread quickly.” She’s right. I see it every day. In talking to voters in recent days, I have found that they simply do not care. Most are content to just believe whatever rhetoric – or downright propaganda – they are fed. It seems to me that some people have forgotten how to think for themselves. I have seen it everywhere – I have friends who will stop calling or texting me until after the elections because they simply bury their heads in the sand until after November. I see Facebook posts begging for the political posts to stop. I see people who simply refuse to engage in anything political.

Two things are central to most people – religion and politics. These are the two things people should be discussing at length! For reasons that should be obvious, religion isn’t something one can simply toss aside – online or in real life. But politics? YES! You should have an opinion. You should be involved! You should know the candidates and what they stand for!

The famous Greek statesman Pericles said, “Just because you do not take an interest in politics does not mean politics will not take an interest in you.” And it’s true! Politics has to do with your interests and forming associations to promote them. So what Pericles is saying is that if you don’t involve yourself in politics (e.g. vote, or form groups to promote your interests, etc.) you are going to be overrun by those that do involve themselves in politics and promote their interests – especially if they directly contradict your views.

Politics is one thing no one likes to talk about – but that everyone should talk about. Plato, the Greek philosopher, put it this way: “One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.” We see how Greece turned out when they did not heed the historical wisdom of those who went before and opted for ‘change’. Unfortunately, the U.S. is headed down a path of similar destruction and we must act quickly to reverse that course and steer the country back to a path that aligns with our Constitution and founding principles.

Folks, this is not just an important election for our lifetime – this election is quite possibly the most important election in our country’s history. Our current President wants to fundamentally change the Republic our founding fathers struggled and sacrificed to give us. The ‘changes’ Obama wants to make (and has already begun making) are the very things that people have come to this country to get away from!

Friedrich Nietzsche said, “Sometimes people don’t want to hear the truth because they don’t want their illusions destroyed.” Truth is, people need to hear these things – they need their illusions destroyed.

We must get involved. We must step up. We must talk to people. Get them thinking. Get them questioning. Get them understanding. Register people to vote! Election Day is only about 6 weeks away. Time is running out. The apathy has got to stop – it is a cancer that is destroying our country from the inside out. People should care – and people should not stop talking politics – politics concern all of us, whether we like it or not. We are ‘We the People’ – it’s up to us to keep our government in line and constrained. We seem to have forgotten that. It’s our obligation and right to ensure that our government aligns with what we want, with the principles and values that established this great nation – we must hold them accountable. The November Presidential election will be here quickly – that is our chance to hold politicians accountable.

Fantastic! I’m having same reaction from friends. They just don’t want to know. It’s pathetic. Glad someone feels same as me – I’m barely getting any responses to my political posts at FB, Twitter, blogsite. Will circulate this.

A major part of the problem is millions still use the corporate controlled news media as their source of information instead of doing their own research, reading books and publications. books like THE ROOTS OF OBAMS’A RAGE, AUDACITY of HOPE, AUDACITY of DECEIT, THE MANCHURIAN PRESIDENT and CORE of CORRUPTION to name just a few. A good publication is whistleblower. The movie 2016 is a very informative movie for those who were among the uninformed. I also have had people tell me i don’t want to talk about politics. Some really are ignorant of our past and present history when it come to our country and especially our government. G. Edward Griffin; ” If America is to survive as a free nation, its citizens must become far more politically educated than they are at present.”

  5. Thanks, Karen. Great article! Enjoyed it a lot.

  6. Great article! I am passing this on…..far too many people just sit back and let whatever may happen, happen. Or they swallow everything the mainstream media feeds them. Yes, I too believe that this election may be the most important election ever, our country is about to go over the edge in more ways than one…….

Thanks guys! I’m a HUGE quote person… and came across this one today – incredibly relevant to this article – “Become informed, passionate citizens who demand honesty and integrity from our leaders, or suffer the consequences of our own ignorance and apathy. Furthermore, we can no longer measure a leader’s worth by the yardsticks provided by the left or the right. Instead, we must use an unchanging standard: the pure, unvarnished truth.” ~Andy Andrews
